Russian Border Control Clamping Down on 90/180 Day Infringements

We would like to inform you that as of September, 2011 Russian customs and border control service have started to use a centralised database, allowing them to calculate the total amount of days a foreign citizen stayed in Russia using his multiple entry business visa issued for the period from 6 months up to 5 years.

On the basis of this kind of visa Russian law authorizes a stay of 90 days within a period of 180 days.

Foreign citizens having exceeded the above mentioned period of stay are not authorized to leave RF and are subject to visit Russian Federal Migration Service territorial department (i.e. FMSD of Moscow) for signing a protocol for administrative penalty based on point 1, article 18.8 of the Russian Administrative Infringement Code (it supposes a penalty from 2000 RUR to 5000 RUR with or without administrative exclusion) and getting a transit visa
